In the spring of 1968 Edgar and Eleanor Connelly purchased this property which consisted of a 2 bedroom bungalow and a small Shell Service Station.
Long hours of labour and love went into transforming this little house into a restaurant which consisted of 3 booths along the front window. A counter with eight or nine bar stools was located along the opposite wall.
The Ed and Ellen Place opened for business in July 1968. Hamburgers sold for 40 cents, Hot Dogs sold for 25 cents. "Hey Jude" by the Beatles played endlessly on the Juke Box. Walls came down as more space for customers was needed. First one bedroom, then the second bedroom, was furnished with tables and chairs.
Immediately after opening, Ed began to build the 10 unit motel and on October 8th, 1968 Ellen rented the first motel room (room No. 1) at the going rate of $8.50 per night.
A public swimming pool was their next project. Motel guests, as well as many local people, have fond memories of hot summer days spent by the pool "up at Connelly's". Shortly afterwards they added another 5 unit motel along side the pool area.
